WORLD COUNCIL OF CHURCHES: INDIGENOUS PROGRAMME
PRIMATES WORLD RELIEF AND DEVELOPMENT FUND
CORDILLERA PEOPLES ALLIANCE YOUTH CENTER

July 2001

Dear Friends,

Warmest solidarity greetings!

On behalf of host, the Cordillera Peoples Alliance Youth Center (CPA-YC) together with the sponsorship of the Primates World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF), and the World Council of Churches - Indigenous Programme, we would like to cordially invite your organization to the International Indigenous Youth Conference (IIYC) with the theme “INDIGENOUS YOUTH: MEETING THE CHALLENGES OF THE NEW MILLENNIUM.”  It will be held in Baguio City, Philippines on April 17-26, 2002.

The IIYC aims to gather indigenous youth representatives from all over the world in order to help define the role and tasks of the world indigenous youth movement in the 21st century.  Specifically, it aims to:

1.    Bring together indigenous youth from different nations to share their experiences, issues and struggles.
2.    Determine, study and analyze the specific problems affecting the indigenous youth caused by the impact of globalization in their various socio-economic-cultural context.
3.    Develop and strengthen solidarity relations amongst indigenous youth towards the establishment of an indigenous youth network that shall be part of the international indigenous peoples movement.

Please refer to the attached Programme for the three-day conference and related activities.  Any feedback on and suggestions to the Conference Programme are welcome.

Aside from the conference, CPA invites all delegates to join in the celebration of Cordillera Day. This is an opportunity for the delegates to learn more about the Cordillera peoples movement. The Cordillera Day celebration will be from April 22-25, 2002. For those interested, please book your flight from the Philippines to your destination on April 26, 2002.  We are also open to host extended integration with the Cordillera peoples and to those interested please inform the IIYC Secretariat.  For those who will have an extended integration, though we will partially subsidize your stay, please prepare a contingency fund of US $ 50.00 to US $ 100.00 to cover food, transportation and other related expenses.

The Conference is open to all interested indigenous youth. However, the organizers may not be able to shoulder all expenses. Thus, we encourage interested participants to raise their own airfare and registration fee.

For delegates who have confirmed their participation for the earlier date of the IIYC, please reconfirm your participation by submitting the Registration Form attached to this document.
