Nota Informativa


        La Secretaría del Foro Permanente sobre Cuestiones Indígenas ha sido establecida recientemente en el Departamento de Asuntos Económicos y Sociales (DAES).

        En vista de la trascendencia de este nuevo órgano, el Sr. Desai, Subsecretario General de Asuntos Económicos y Sociales, estableció la Secretaría como una sección, al interior de la División de Política y Desarrollo Social. Esto proporciona una base sólida para el desarrollo de esta importante labor.

        La tarea de la Secretaría es de apoyar al Foro Permanente sobre Cuestiones Indígenas en el cumplimiento de su mandato, que abarca las áreas de desarrollo económico y social, cultura, medio ambiente, educación, salud y derechos humanos, proporcionanado asesoría especializada y recomendaciones sobre cuestiones indígenas al Consejo Económico y Social (ECOSOC) así como a los programas, fondos y agencias especializadas de Naciones Unidas; impulsar la sensibilización y promover la integración y coordinación de actividades relacionadas con cuestiones indígenas en el seno del sistema de Naciones Unidas; así como, elaborar y difundir información sobre cuestiones indígenas.

        Actualmente, la Secretaría se encuentra ubicada en nuestras oficinas del DAES, del 17° piso, 2 United Nations Plaza, trabajando con ahinco para instalar sus oficinas, crear su página web y red de comunicación, a la vez que prepara la segunda sesión del Foro Permanente (del 12 al 23 de mayo 2003). 

        El informe del Foro Permanente está disponible en el sitio web de la Oficina del Alto Comisionado sobre Derechos Humanos en www.unhchr.org.  Si no cuenta con servicio de internet  y necesita una copia  impresa, sírvase entrar en contacto con la Secretaría para hacerle llegar una copia por correo normal.

        Nos gustaría también solicitar su contribución para establecer el calendario 2003-2004 de todas las conferencias y eventos en estrecha relación con los temas indígenas.

        La información sobre acreditación para la segunda sesión del Foro Permanente, actualmente en preparación, estará disponible a mediados de febrero en el sitio web.

        Nos hemos propuesto hacer todo lo posible para asegurar el éxito de la segunda sesión del Foro Permanente. Desde ya nos regocijamos de entrar en permanente comunicación con nuestros colegas de los más importantes OPIs y ONGs.

Le Secrétariat de l'Instance permanente sur les questions autochtones est maintenant basé au Département des Affaires économiques et sociales (DESA).

Pour souligner le sens de ce nouvel organe, M Desai, Sous-Secrétaire Général pour les Affaires économiques et sociales, a installé le Secrétariat en tant que branche au sein de la Division Politique et Développement sociaux. Ceci procure une base solide sur laquelle cet important travail pourra se construire.

La tâche du Secrétariat consiste à prêter assistance à l'Instance permanente sur les questions autochtones dans la poursuite de son mandat, qui couvre les domaines du développement économique et social, la culture, l'environnement, l'éducation, la santé et les droits humains, à travers l'apport de conseils et de recommandations d'experts sur les questions autochtones auprès de l'ECOSOC, ainsi que des programmes, des fonds et lds agences des Nations Unies ; son mandat est également d'éveiller l'attention et promouvoir l'intégration et la coordination des activités liées aux questions autochtones au sein du système des Nations Unies, et enfin de préparer et transmettre les informations sur les questions autochtones.

Le Secrétariat se trouve maintenant dans les locaux du DESA dans nos bureaux situés au 17e étage, 2 United Nations Plaza, New York, et se consacre à la mise en place des systèmes du bureau, de notre page Web, les réseaux de communications, tout en préparant et transmettant les informations sur la deuxième session de l'Instance permanente sur les questions autochtones (12-23 mai 2003).

Le rapport de l'Instance permanente est disponible sur la page Web du Haut Commissariat pour les droits humains à l'adresse www.unhchr.org. Au cas où vous n'ayez pas accès à l'Internet et que vous désiriez ce rapport sous sa forme papier, veuillez prendre contact avec le Secrétariat et vous en obtiendrez une copie par voie postale.

Nous aimerions également demander vos apports pour établir un calendrier de toutes les conférences et évènements qui concernent les autochtones pour 2003-2004.

Les informations sur les accréditations pour la seconde session de l'Instance permanente seront disponibles vers la mi-février sur notre site Web que nous élaborons actuellement.

Nous nous engageons à faire de notre mieux pour assurer le succès de la seconde session de l'Instance permanente.                              Information Note

     The  Secretariat  for  the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues is now
established  at  the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA).  Mr.
Nitin  Desai,  Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, has
established  the  Secretariat  within  the  Division  for Social Policy and
Development.   This  provides  a  solid  foundation  on  which to grow this
important work.

     The  Secretariat's  job is to assist the Permanent Forum on Indigenous
Issues  in carrying out its mandate, which covers the areas of economic and
social  development,  culture, the environment, education, health and human
rights,  through  the  provision  of  expert  advice and recommendations on
indigenous issues to the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) as well as to
programmes, funds and agencies of the United Nations; raising awareness and
promoting integration and coordination of activities relating to indigenous
issues  within  the  United Nations system; and preparing and disseminating
information  on  indigenous  issues.  The Secretariat is now located within
DESA  in  our  offices  on  the  17th floor, 2 United Nations Plaza, busily
establishing  office  systems,  our  webpage and communication networks and
preparing  for  the second session of the Permanent Forum (12-23 May 2003).

     The  report of the Permanent Forum is available through the webpage of
the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights at www.unhchr.org.  If
you  do not have internet access and require a hard copy please contact the
Secretariat and a copy will be mailed to you.

     We  would  also  like  to  request  your  input  for a calendar of all
indigenous relevant conferences and events in 2003-2004.

     Information  on  accreditation for the second session of the Permanent
Forum  will  be  available  by  mid-February  on  the  website  we  are now
preparing.   We  are  committed  to  doing  our best to ensure a successful
second  session  of  the  Permanent Forum.  We look forward to establishing
regular  lines  of  communication  with  our  most  important  IPO  and NGO
colleagues.
