As President of the Working Group to
prepare the Draft American Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous
Peoples, I wish to inform you that the deadline for representatives of
indigenous groups participating in the Special Session of the said
Group to nominate three indigenous regional representatives from
South, North, Central America and the Caribbean, has been extended
until December 31. The said representatives will be part of the
Specific Fund’s Selection Committee intended to subsidize travel costs
for indigenous representatives to the Special Session of the Working
Group, which will take place on February 24-28, 2003 at OAS
Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
Based on your participation in the
previous Special Session, I reiterate the application so that together
with other indigenous representatives from your region elect an
individual and submit their name, postal and email address as soon as
possible and before December 31 to the Secretariat for the Summit
Process, the administrative entity of the OAS Specific Fund, at the
