| At 4:30 in the afternoon Thursday June 29th 2006, the 1st session of the new UN Human Rights Council approved the Draft resolution L.3, as proposed by Peru adopting the Chair's text of the UN Declaration for the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and sending to the UN General Assembly for its adoption. There were 30 states in favor, 2 against (Canada and Russian Federation) and 12 abstentions (including Argentina, Philipeans, Algeria, Ghana) and 3 states counted as absent(Gabon, Mali). China, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Chec Republic, France, United Kingdom, Pakistan, Azerbaijan all voted in favor. Some states, i.e Japan, India)gave an explanation about their vote and how they understand the content of the Declaration. Brazil, along with India and >Japan, said they coted yes with the understanding that it did not affect territorial integrity. A las 4:30 de la tarde el 29 de julio de 2006 el primer sesion del nuevo Consjeo de los Derechos Humanos de las Naciones Unidas aprobo el proyecto de resolucion L.3, sobre la resolucion Peruana, adoptando el texto del presidente de la Declaracion sobre los Derechos de los Pueblos Indigenas y mandandola a la Asemblea General por su adopcion. |
